Ask ChatGPT for "the best coworking space in Noida" or "a good CRM for a small Indian business" and it will confidently name five brands. Ask yourself an uncomfortable question: is yours one of them?
For most Indian businesses the answer is no — and unlike a Google ranking, you cannot buy your way in with ads. AI engines cite brands they have learned to associate with a category. If that association does not exist, you are invisible at the exact moment a buyer is asking for a recommendation with money in hand.
Why this matters more in India than anywhere else
India is skipping a step. Markets that spent twenty years learning to Google are moving to AI assistants gradually; Indian buyers — especially the mobile-first, WhatsApp-native SMB owner — are jumping straight from "ask a friend" to "ask ChatGPT". The recommendation query ("best X for Y") is precisely the query type AI answers best, and precisely where commercial intent is highest.
What actually gets a brand cited
- •Citable content: comparison pages, honest listicles that include competitors, pricing transparency. Engines cite pages that answer the question the way they want to answer it.
- •Consistent category association: your brand name appearing near category terms ("coworking", "Noida") across many independent sources — directories, press, reviews, forums.
- •Structured facts: schema markup, consistent NAP data, a Wikipedia-grade "about" footprint. Engines prefer brands whose basic facts they can verify.
- •Recency: engines increasingly browse. Fresh content wins ties.
How to measure it
You cannot manage what you never check. Track a set of commercial prompts weekly — the questions your actual customers ask — across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini, and record whether you are cited and at what position. That trend line is your AI-search visibility, and it compounds: brands that show up get linked and mentioned more, which makes them show up more.
We built the free Kyde AI Visibility Checker to run this check in 30 seconds, and the India AI-Visibility Index to publish who is winning each category weekly. Check your brand before your competitor checks theirs.
